Home automation is the interdisciplinary science that deals with the study oftechnologies to improve the quality of life at home and more generally in theenvironment by humans. The term derives from the Latin domus home automationwhich means "house". This highly interdisciplinary area requires the input of many technologies and expertise, including construction engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunications and information technology.

Home automation is born during the third industrial revolution in order to investigate, to find tools and strategies to:
- improve the quality of life;
- improve safety;
 -save energy;
- simplify design, installation, maintenance and use of technology;
- reduce the management costs;
- convert old environments and old installations.

Home automation plays therefore an important role in making intelligent equipment, facilities and systems. For example, an intelligent electrical system can self-regulate the ignition of domestic appliance not to exceed the threshold that would trigger the counter.

"intelligent home" refers to a domestic environment - properly designed and technologically equipped - which provides to users facilities that go beyond the "traditional", where equipments and systems are able to carry out partially autonomous functions (for environmental reactions on environmental parameters of a fixed and predetermined nature) or programmed by use or recently fully autonomous (second reactions to environmental parameters directly from dynamic programs that you create or improve with self-learning).

That's why E-engineering also deals with design and physical implementation of home automation systems that facilitate the use of different components within the house, in accordance with current regulations and requirements of safety, cheapness and easiness of management expressed by the client.

Automation Areas

The ultimate goal of a system of automation is a total control of all services and the ability to create new complex operations are possible only in case of several simple systems are connected and controlled in an intelligent way.
Possible areas of automation  in a house are:
